Water quality

The River Sadar

The Master Plan for the Sanitation and Treatment of Navarre’s rivers got under way in 1989 with the installation of the threshold system in the Pamplona District and the opening of the Arazuri primary treatment plant in 1990.

The objectives set out in the Master Plan for the Sanitation of Navarre’s rivers for the middle stretch of the Arga entering the District of Pamplona are that it should be able to support cyprinid life and comply with A3 supply restrictions. The A3 quality objective involves intensive physical-chemical treatment and final disinfection.

The arrival of the treatment plant led to notable improvement in water quality and more life in the river.

The River Arga has once more become a area for recreation, angling and sports.
